A resolution was presented proclaiming August 15, 2012 as “India Heritage Day.”
The City Council also heard an informational presentation about the launch of the City’s first mobile app, Access Irvine, which is designed to provide residents who are on-the-go with access to City-related information. The first phase of the application features tip lines to report crimes; teen events; resources for youth; City events; interactive maps; information about City parks and facilities; contact information for City departments; public safety news and information; and links to City social media. To download this free application for iPhones from the App Store, click here. The Android version will be available soon.
The Council decided not to take action on an item which recommends making various changes to the City Council Policy and Procedures Manual.
The Council unanimously approved plans to make improvements to Marine Way, which leads to the main entrance of the Orange County Great Park. This construction project includes bicycle lanes, street lighting and landscaping at an estimated cost of $767,000.
And last but not least, the Council voted to direct city staff to study a ban on plastic shopping bags, although I voted against it.
