A few short months ago a local law firm invited my office to attend their 50th Anniversary Celebration that doubled as a canned food drive for needy families. I am a staunch believer in the ability of local citizens and businesses to strengthen their community from the ground up, so was curious to find out more about their efforts.
What I found out was that this law firm was able to collect over 400 pounds of food and monetary contributions to help those in need. These efforts supplement already robust philanthropic efforts in which TL&D sponsors local charitable organizations including the Big Brothers of Orange County, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Share Our Selves.
What a profound impact and this is just one organization. I know many local businesses and citizens in our city that help those less fortunate and this holiday season there are many ways in which you can help others.
The burden that military families endure to defend our freedom is particularly hard during the holiday season. That is why I am asking anybody capable to help support these families by donating to the City of Irvine and the Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee toy drive. Our toy drive will benefit children and families of Irvine’s adopted Marine battalion from Camp Pendleton.
Toy collection containers are located at:
The Orange County Great Park Visitors Center, (off the 5 Freeway at Sand Canyon and Marine Way)
and
The lobbies of the Irvine Civic Center and Police Department, (at 1 Civic Center Plaza, Irvine)
Our toy drive will run through December 9. The community is being asked to donate new, unwrapped gifts suitable for infants or children through 12 years of age. Toys will be distributed to service member families during a special holiday program in December. For additional toy drive information, contact Brittany Hale, 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee Chair, at 949-230-4406.
The 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division (2/11) was officially adopted by the City of Irvine on September 15, 2007. Comprised of roughly 750 Marines and Sailors, the 155mm howitzer battalion’s primary mission is direct support to the 5th Marine Regiment during times of conflict.
